The course curriculum is divided in 4 Semesters having 16 theory courses, various types of practical field work training and major project.
Theoretical Courses:
The Department of Labour Welfare uses an optimal blend of class room teaching, case discussions and analysis, project work, seminars, quizzes, self-study, assignments etc. as a part of unique teaching learning approach. The students are also required to undergo field work training for practical learning.
Case Studies
The students are required to undertake problem oriented case studies. Case based learning is encouraged to help the students acquired problem-solving and decision making skills in complex situation.
Workshops:
As part of students' development program, workshops are organized at regular intervals on various topics like communication, interpersonal skills, personality development, public speaking, interview techniques, conflict management, team building and time management by eminent trainers and practitioners.
Presentations:
Students have to make course related presentations by using modern technological tools like OHP and LCD projector, which are evaluated by concerned faculties.
Field Work Training
Observation visits
In the 1st semester Students are required to visit different labour areas to study the living and working condition of workers as well as different industrial units, NGOs, government offices connected with the implementation of labour laws and training of workers or occupational health services.
NGO Training
In the 2nd semester the students are placed with different non-governmental organizations for a period of 15-20 days in small groups. During this period they are expected to study the group dynamics, integrate themselves with group activities and get training for group leadership. The group organizes different activities like sports, dramatics, music, informal adult education camps, literacy drive, etc. for workers during this period.
Summer Internship
In the 3rd semester, the students are required to undergo summer internship training in various industries for 6-8 weeks. During this phase, they are expected to observe the dynamics of Human Resource Management and Labour Welfare activities and work on a project.
On completion of their training the students are expected to submit a detailed project report and make a presentation in the class. This enables the students to experience the rigors of industrial environment and relate the concepts learnt in class room with the practical situation in organization.
Major Project (Dissertation)
In the final and 4th semester a Major project provides opportunities for application of the knowledge acquired in classrooms, to real life situations. The students under the guidance of faculty, select organization where they would like to do their projects and any topic relevant to their study for their project.
Evaluation
The examinations serve to finally assess and certify the student's knowledge and skill in the prescribed areas of study. Continuous evaluation of students is done on the basis of their performance in the field-work theory courses by assignments and tests as well as end semester examination.
